Located at 41 Dovercourt Road in Toronto’s vibrant West Queen West neighbourhood, The Plant Condos is the latest residential project by boutique developer Curated Properties. The Toronto-based builder is known for designing bold and innovative residences from a converted century-old yarn factory (Lanehouse on Bartlett) to a townhome project atop a low-rise office building (Dovercourt 455).
The developer’s latest endeavor brings it to the sought-after West Queen West area at a site situated beside another Curated development, Cabin Condos. The Muskoka-inspired mid-rise is currently under construction and was recently named one of the seven best new mid-rise buildings in the city by Toronto Life.
For the Plant, Curated has partnered with Ottawa-based Windmill Developments to construct a 77-unit condominium designed to be self-sustaining and self-reliant by introducing agriculture and food production to the community. The “terrace-to-table” concept brings features and amenities that facilitate food production including an internal greenhouse/nursery to cultivate seeds and grow plants.
“The choices we make as developers dictate the lifestyle available to the people that live in our buildings,” says Adam Ochshorn, partner at Curated Properties. “When you consider two-thirds of all humans will soon be city-dwellers, having to choose between an urban residence or the ability to comfortably grow your herbs and vegetables no longer makes sense.”
The interiors were done by multi-disciplinary design studio +tongtong and are available in one or two-storey units with eat-in kitchens and up to four bedrooms. Homeowners will also benefit from eco-friendly features like geothermal heating, LED lighting and low-VOC materials. In addition, prospective homebuyers have the option of customizing their homes with extra pantries, industrial metal racks and integrated wood table extensions.
Amenity spaces continue the terrace-to-table theme with garden plots and eating areas, as well as an industrial-style kitchen that can accommodate food preparation and host social events.

While at the sales centre, guests can learn about the urban agriculture project that Curated Properties is working on with the Bowery Project. The not-for-profit organization seeks opportunities for urban agriculture through the temporary use of vacant lots. The initiative at The Plant involves a series of milk crates that have transformed the sales centre parking lot into an urban farm. During the sales cycle, plants and produce will be grown in the crates and then donated once construction commences.
