In both relationships and design, the little things are the big things. This Valentine’s Day, The Winthorpe Modern invites prospective buyers to fall in love today, and move in tomorrow. These eight custom crafted homes in Toronto’s Upper Beach neighbourhood are brimming with subtleties that simply could not be expressed through a blackline floor plan. From engineered wide-plank white oak flooring, to open floating staircases, to modern front doors imported from Germany, no detail has been overlooked.

The completed development by Kingston Beach Inc. boasts two collections of four condominium townhouses. Floor plans in The Winthorpe Collection feature three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with 1,460 to 1,550 square feet of living space. Alternatively, The Kingston Collection has two bedrooms and two bathrooms that span 1,100 to 1,170 square feet.

Andrew Pike, the Principal Designer of Andrew Pike Interiors, outfitted the two model suites, which represent each floor plan. For The Winthorpe Collection, he emphasized the airiness of the corner floor-to-ceiling windows and open-to-above areas with “an intentionally soft palette combined with high gloss white accents.” The aesthetic is warm and inviting, combining understated neutrals with rich textures.

The open-concept kitchen boasts Miralis cabinetry with a driftwood finish, soft-close drawer systems and a white quartz waterfall countertop. Drawer inserts are included for easy organizing, and there’s even a custom cupboard for large platter and tray storage. Uplighting has been installed to illuminate the ceiling, giving the space a warm, golden glow. A walk-in pantry that features an automatic ceiling light, and professional-grade appliances from Liebherr and AEG will ensure that restaurant-quality meals are turned out from this kitchen.

With such incredible corner floor to ceiling windows in both the master bedroom and the living room, I couldn’t help but make them a feature,” admitted Pike. True to form, the designer dressed them with floaty sheers and tailored side panels to diffuse daylight and provide privacy.

The second bedroom also includes a 20-foot, two-storey window that’s been accented by a sculptural light fixture that draws the eye upward.

For The Kingston Collection, Pike chose a moody colour palette, contrasted by gold and navy blue. While the floor plan has a smaller footprint, the luxury finishes are the same throughout. One of my favourite elements in this space is the open living, dining and kitchen area,” explained Pike. “Built for entertaining, the main space has a perfect flow between levels, and the discreet location of the TV between the dining room and kitchen give you flexibility on how you want to live in it.”

The hotel-inspired bathrooms are distinguished by large-format porcelain wall tiles, oversized showers with frameless glass doors, high gloss polymer cabinetry and Neptune Zen vessel sinks. Even the laundry area has been carefully considered, with stackable AEG Lavamat and Lavatherm washer and dryer units that are energy-efficient and water-saving. Although the current dryer is a ventless model, an exterior dryer vent has been installed should the homeowner have a need for one in the future.
