Since building its first home in 1975, Phelps Homes has become an award-winning developer known for quality construction and design. For over 40 years, the family-run business has created custom homes and master planned communities throughout the Golden Horseshoe and Niagara regions. Its latest project brings it to the quaint community of Merritton, just south of St. Catherines. Coming this fall, Merritton Commons will consist of six attached bungalows and 37 bungalow towns surrounded by a wealth of local amenities and attractions.
The community of Merritton was named after William Hamilton Merritt, a prominent local entrepreneur and visionary behind the first Welland Canal, linking lakes Ontario and Erie. Often referred to as the Heart of St. Catharines, the town has a rich industrial history spanning almost 200 years and is known for its heritage sites including the Merritton Tunnel and the Merritton Cotton Mills Annex.
Located on a 12-acre parcel of land at Oakdale Avenue and Hartzel Road, Merritton Commons will eventually welcome over 100 families to the historical town. When completed, residents will enjoy easy access to a variety of shops, parks, schools and recreational facilities.
Whether it’s spending the day shopping at the new Outlet Collection at Niagara, browsing the boutique shops and cafes at the Pen Centre or catching a show at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, there’s no shortage of local attractions. Other nearby services and amenities include the Meridian Centre, Niagara College, Brock University and the state-of-the-art St. Catharines hospital and the Walker Family Cancer Centre. The community is also well connected with convenient access to the QEW, the Fort Erie/Buffalo border and the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
The grand opening of phase one is scheduled for November 12th, and will feature a limited collection of spacious semis and cozy bungalows on large sized lots. Ranging from 1,200 square feet to 1,600 square feet, the homes feature high quality finishes and boast plenty of space for growing families or empty nesters.
