stepped-compressed The phrase “thoughtful design” gets thrown around a lot in discussions about architecture. But what does it actually mean? The answer is quite simple — thoughtful design is about people, and how they interact with the spaces in which they live and work.

Danish architecture firm 3XN adopted this approach for their first project in North America, AQUABELLA at Bayside. The firm’s design for the luxury condominium by Hines and Tridel was inspired by “the scale and intimacy of a family home,” striking a balance between elegance and comfort on Queens Quay East.

AQUABELLA features a stepped, L-shape design that maximizes views of Lake Ontario, while allowing ample natural light to fill the suites. The height of the building peaks at its northwest corner, slopes downward to the amenity space on the seventh floor and then rises back up towards its eastern facade.

pool-compressed 3XN paid special attention to the outdoor spaces in this project, creating large garden terraces that are ideal for entertaining or relaxing. These terraces “activate the facade” of the building with colour, texture and depth. What’s more, they provide residents with sweeping vistas of the water, neighbouring parks and city skyline.

The interiors of AQUABELLA will be just as enticing as its exterior. The suites, which range from one to three bedrooms, are distinguished by contemporary, full height flat panel kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, granite or quartz kitchen countertops, premium engineered plank laminate flooring and smooth ceilings.

The 12-storey residence will offer exceptional amenities, including a lobby designed by II by IV, party room, swimming pool, state-of-the-art gym, yoga studio and a rooftop deck. Located along Queen’s Quay East in Toronto’s East Bayfront neighbourhood, AQUABELLA is within walking distance of St. Lawrence Market, the Esplanade, Union Station, Distillery District and Sugar Beach.
