Following a delay covered by this outlet and subsequently by other Toronto media in the spring, a source has now confirmed to BuzzBuzzNews that Italian “mega-marketplace” Eataly will open in the Manulife Centre.

While no timeline for an opening was provided, the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, was able to confirm that the Eataly entrance would be beside the Birks jewelry store on the main level of the shopping complex.

In April of this year, BuzzBuzzNews reported that Eataly had hit a snag with the planned opening of a 39,000 square foot, three-floor location in the Manulife Centre. The Bloor Street Diner, which also occupies space in the complex, had won an injunction to prevent Eataly from opening in the mall.

As of this time it’s unclear if an agreement has been reached between the Bloor Street Diner and Eataly, though retail news publication Retail Insider speculated on the possibility of the two parties negotiating an agreement in an article published on May 2nd.

Headquartered in Monticello d’Alba, Italy, Eataly operates locations across Europe and Asia and has three stores in North America — two in New York and one in Chicago. Boston and Los Angeles locations are also in the works. The Manulife Centre location will be its first in Canada.

This is a developing story. BuzzBuzzNews will include updates to this story if any additional information becomes available.
