Now over 70 per cent sold, construction on The Connolly in downtown Hamilton is scheduled to start in the last quarter of this year. Anticipated for completion in 2018, the project by Toronto-based Stanton Renaissance will introduce new commercial and retail space, along with a total of 259 residential units to the vibrant community.

In an effort to preserving the past, the ambitious project is named after Joseph Connolly, the renowned Gothic Revival architect who designed the James Street Baptist Church that previously stood on the site. The development will also preserve and integrate the facade of the 134 year old church to a modern 30-storey tower designed by McCallum Sather Architects Inc., making it a truly unique community where people can live, work and play.


In preparation for construction, several of the stained-glass windows, doors and columns have been preserved and will be repurposed into the design of the new development, making it a true blend of history and today’s modern designs.

“It’s something the mass public would not have enjoyed before unless you were part of the congregation,” said Louie Santaguida, President of Stanton Renaissance. “The design is about keeping the history of what was once part of the downtown nomenclature, now is being maintained and hopefully will have life for another 130 years.”


The mixed-use project is a prime example of Stanton’s “Visionization” philosophy which aims to transform communities by rethinking, rebuilding and preserving areas that have deteriorated through the years. When it’s completed, the community will become downtown Hamilton’s newest artistic hub and gathering spot with a cafe, restaurant and public galleria housed behind the heritage facade.

The ground level galleria will also house the condominium’s modern amenity spaces including a well-equipped fitness room, outdoor patio with barbecue area, executive concierge, and a multipurpose room complete with a full kitchen.


Suites at The Connolly start from the low $200,000s and boasts open-concept floorplans, outdoor living spaces, and breathtaking views of the city, escarpment and Lake Ontario. Standard finishes include nine foot ceilings, pre-finished laminate floors, and contemporary cabinets, Caesarstone or quartz countertops and modern tile backsplashes.
