The lakeside neighbourhood of Humber Bay has experienced significant growth over the past decade with some of the city’s tallest skyscrapers taking shape, creating the area’s own distinct skyline. It wasn’t too long ago when the strip of land south of Lake Shore Boulevard between Park Lawn Avenue and Marine Parade Drive was the site of the infamous motel row. Today, the area has been transformed by developers like Mattamy Limited who have redeveloped the land into luxury condominium residences with world class amenities and tremendous views of the bay.

As one of the larger developers of the new wave of condominiums, Mattamy has already built several successful projects in the neighbourhood including Voyager, Nautilus and Waterscapes. Their latest projects are two towers called Lago and Riva del Lago which are both currently under construction and will eventually house over 600 new units.

BuzzBuzzHome News visited the construction site earlier this week to get the latest update in construction progress. We started our tour at Lago — the first and taller of the two towers — taking the hoist up to the 44th floor to get some snowy shots of the scenery thanks to one last visit from Old Man Winter. And while we were only on the 44th floor, construction has actually reached the first mechanical floor and the tower is anticipated to top off within the next month. Following that, the crane will be disassembled around June, and the tower is expected to be completely sealed up shortly after.

When completed later this year, the Graziani + Corazza Architects Inc.-designed tower will rise 50 storeys above Humber Bay with a sleek yet simple shape featuring offset wraparound balconies that give it a stacked, almost geometric shape. The use of dark and light balcony glass add further visual interest as the eye travels up the tower’s facade, and features a similar colour pattern to Waterscapes and Riva del Lago in order to maintain an aesthetic link to its neighbours.

While forming continues on the top portion of the building, workers have also been busy on the lower residential floors where interior finishes and drywall installation has started up to the sixth floor. Standard features on all suites include nine foot ceilings, single-plank laminate floors, granite or quartz countertops and bathrooms finished with marble or porcelain tiles. Plus, stand-alone showers include spa-inspired Rain Shower-style showerheads as per plan.

After touring a one bedroom plus den unit on the sixth floor, we stopped by the second level to check out the building’s impressive amenities. Amenities include a fully equipped fitness centre with yoga studio, barbecue terrace, party room, swimming pool, and and barbecue terrace. A Tanner Hill and Associates-designed, dual level lobby is also included and comes complete with a convenient 24 hour concierge.

The last stop on our tour was the ground level of the project’s second tower — Riva del Lago. Situated directly across from the first phase, Riva del Lago is a 16-storey boutique residence featuring contemporary architecture characterized by sleek lines and expansive balconies to make the most of the panoramic views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline.

Similar to Lago, Riva del Lago offers a great selection of amenities including a dramatic two-storey lobby with 24/7 concierge, fitness centre, theatre, pet-washing station, and entertainment room complete with a recreation area and outdoor terrace.

Residents of Riva del Lago will also benefit from a 2,000 square foot retail area fronting the lake as well as shared access to the Lago water amenities including the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, and dry saunas.

Available suites at Lago are priced from $743,990 and start at 1,083 square feet, while suites at Riva del Lago start at $444,990 and 783 square feet.
