The Toronto-based startup was founded by CEO Ray Taaeb and CTO Curtis Layne in 2014. Access to their site is free for tenants, allowing them to search for rentals, create listing alerts, schedule viewings, make offers and even pay their rent. It’s basically a one stop shop for your next condo or apartment.

Landlords, on the other hand, are able to list their units and manage tenant relations. Through a team of professional agents, Casalova will handle every detail, from photography, to showing the properties, to vetting and securing qualified tenants. The company recently became the first rental marketplace in the world to offer a $50,000 rent guarantee on every tenant booked through the platform. It’s available for any residential property in the Greater Toronto Area that’s owned or operated by a landlord or property manager.

“After speaking with hundreds of landlords and real estate investors, we found that they have little to no protection in the rental market,” said Taaeb, CEO and co-founder of Casalova. “Every landlord’s biggest fear is their tenant not paying rent, which is a loss the majority cannot afford to risk.”

Casalova’s protection package covers rent until the tenant is evicted. In Ontario, this process usually takes about three months, but Casalife will ensure payment until the $50,000 limit is reached. If your tenant defaults, a team of trusted paralegals will have your back (at no extra cost), and Casalova will continue to pay rent every month until the tenant is out of there for good.

The company’s data scientists have also developed a machine learning algorithm for finding the perfect tenant. While most landlords rely on credit scores to assess risk, Casalova’s program considers traditional and non-traditional factors, giving the tenant a score based on its findings.
