With the first phase now complete, construction on the second phase, also known as Block B, of Elad Canada’s Emerald City is well underway. The last time BuzzBuzzHome News toured the project, large dump trucks were still hauling away dirt as crews continued with excavation. We returned to the site last week to see what’s changed since October.

The biggest change since our last visit was the addition of two cranes which were installed in November. Both cranes are currently being used to construct The Colours of Emerald City (B1) with Fifth on the Park (B2) to follow behind. Both towers will share a nine-storey podium in between.

“Our critical path is to finish the structure work of the B1 building,” explained Ron Weinstock, Executive VP Business Development and Construction at Elad Canada. “That’s why we’re pushing the underground parking where the core of the building is. Once they’re above ground, you’ll see more construction on Fifth on the Park.”


Down in the pit, even more progress can be seen with workers finishing up the last of the footings in the P4 level of the underground garage. On the south end, slab for P3 is currently being poured and the project is anticipated to hit grade level within the next couple of months. The parking level will eventually have two entrances, with the main entrance coming from the roundabout off Forest Manor Road and a secondary entrance off George Henry Blvd.

The newly opened Helen Lu Road, south of the site provides another entrance for residents while easing traffic congestion from Don Mills Road. The road also separates Block B from Block C, the third phase of Emerald City.


Elsewhere on site, a variety of trades are working on everything from shoring and excavation, to electrical, plumbing and waterproofing. At this point, PCL — the project’s construction management company — has already secured 70 per cent of trades so it won’t be long before construction starts moving upwards.

“The most important thing is that we’re working with a very tight schedule,” said Marc Milton, Project Site Superintendent, PCL Constructors Canada Inc. “We certainly always have to be hiring the best of the best to be able to perform under any sort of conditions.”

Completion of the two towers will be separated by about a year with Colours scheduled for occupancy in summer 2017 and Fifth on the Park scheduled for the same time in 2018.


When completed, residents of both condos will share a wealth of amenities within the complex including a party room, fully-equipped fitness centre, swimming pool, saunas, and an outdoor patio and terrace. Residents will also benefit from unique condo amenities like the Wi-Fi Café Lounge, arcade and game centre and a karaoke/theatre room. A wide array of local amenities are also just steps away including the new Parkway Forest Community Centre, Don Mills subway station and Fairview Mall.

Prices at The Colours of Emerald City and Fifth on the Park start at $250,900 and $253,900 respectively. To learn more about the project, visit the presentation centre located at Sheppard Avenue East across from Fairview Mall, open Monday to Thursday from 11am to 6pm and weekends from 12pm to 5pm.
