Kitchener-based startup Bridgit has won the first ever women’s edition of Google Demo Day. Co-founders Mallorie Brodie and Lauren Lake pitched their business to a panel of three judges and an audience of Silicon Valley investors. Their trophy winning mobile app, known as Closeout, is a punchlist management system for tracking deficiencies on construction sites.

The competition received over 450 applications from 40 countries, but only 11 companies were selected to present in San Francisco on Wednesday, December 9th. “The judges liked our proven ability to execute in our industry,” said Bridgit co-founder Mallorie Brodie. “They were impressed with our traction and not only that we had strong revenue growth, but that we had developed a scalable sales process.”

Bridgit’s communication platform is available to commercial and residential builders. Prior to the app’s introduction, tracking on-site deficiencies was a complicated mess of handwritten notes, spreadsheets and emails. Closeout streamlines that process, saving its users both time and money.

While there was no cash prize for winning the competition, the company is now poised for big things in the coming year. “We have our eyes set on US expansion,” said Brodie. “Over the past couple of months we’ve been building our customer base in New York City and Google Demo Day was a great opportunity to continue growing our U.S. network.”

Bridgit’s co-founders predict 2016 will be a monumental year for the construction technology industry, as builders have begun to purchase the appropriate tools (like tablets, smartphones and larger data plans) to use software on a daily basis. “We are already seeing the impact of this, with [our] sales growing at over 20 per cent month-over-month and sustainable long term growth opportunities,” added Brodie.

When asked about the atmosphere at the Google event, Brodie praised her fellow participants. “It was great to bring together a strong group of female founders. Google Demo Day provided an amazing opportunity to showcase companies from around the world and to inspire other female entrepreneurs.”
