Located at King Street West and Blue Jays Way, the site of King Blue Condos is fully fenced with hydraulic drilling machines, backhoes and other heavy equipment brought in to start shoring and site prep for excavation.
Shoring is one of the most important steps in the early construction stage and involves strengthening and retaining the walls surrounding the site to ensure that soil doesn’t erode into the excavation. The process involves drilling a hole deep into the ground, inserting hollow steel casings, and then filling them in with concrete. When the concrete sets, the casings are removed leaving behind long concrete piles in the ground. Once the site has been fully shored, excavators will be brought in to start digging and excavating the underground parking levels.
When completed in 2018, the complex will consist of two Page + Steele IBI Group Architects and IBI Group-designed residential towers rising 48 and 44 storeys above Toronto’s vibrant Entertainment District. A seven-storey podium forms the base of the building and will incorporate the historical Westinghouse facade on the northwest corner. The new Theatre Museum of Canada, as well as a Primus boutique hotel with 122 rooms, luxurious amenities, and on-site conference facilities will also be part of the development.
Interiors, designed by Studio Munge, feature stunning lobbies, chic party rooms, and a landscaped rooftop terrace with waterfalls, firepits and stunning views of the neighbourhood. Other amenities include a rooftop pool with bar, fully-equipped fitness centre and multi-media room.
