UPDATE: 3:50pm: It has been confirmed that Lauren Haw, with the backing of real estate and technology investors, purchased Zoocasa from Rogers. Haw will serve as Zoocasa’s CEO according to a press release distributed Thursday afternoon.
“We believe we’ve acquired a Canadian asset that consumers really depend on for their home search data,” Haw told BuzzBuzzHome News in a phone interview. “We’re really excited to be bringing to the table an in-house team of agents that we believe we’ll be able to service at a higher level by having full control over the service experience.”
Haw said that her team plans on introducing significant functionality on top of Zoocasa’s current offerings. When asked about Zoocasa’s past issues with displaying Canadian home sales data, she said that Zoocasa will be following the guidelines of CREA, TREB and the other boards they are working with.
“They own the data and we want to make sure we’re respectful of the industry we’re a part of,” she said.
UPDATE 11:20am: The Zoocasa.com site is now live with a Keller Williams Referred Urban Realty, Brokerage banner in its header. Earlier this morning it was still displaying the shutdown notice.
Original story: In an email to its clients on June 9th, the Rogers-owned online brokerage Zoocasa announced it would be shutting down for good.
As of June 22nd, the Zoocasa.com site was officially shuttered.
While this has not been confirmed by the parties who are possibly involved, it appears that the Zoocasa.com domain has transferred ownership and is now owned by Toronto-based Keller Williams real estate agent and owner of Scholarhood.com Lauren Haw.
Spotted by using the web domain look-up service whois.com, Zoocasa.com is now registered to Lauren Haw and the admin email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Below is a screenshot taken this morning from whois.com displaying this information:
So is Lauren Haw the new owner of Zoocasa? This has not been confirmed by either party, but we have confirmed that Lauren Haw is listed as the President of 2466720 Ontario Inc. which is listed as the owner of the Zoocasa domain on whois.com.
We have reached out to Haw for comment and will update this story as more information becomes available.
