A conceptual design from OPA — Open Platform for Architecture — in which a concrete dwelling is embedded in the cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea.
Aptly named Casa Brutale, the proposal calls for a glass-bottom rooftop pool that would bathe the interior in whimsical light while a sea-facing glass facade frames the beauty of the Mediterranean.
“Casa Brutale redefines the harmonious coexistence of human and nature in a poetic homage to pure Brutalism,” OPA explains on their website. “The underground building benefits from a perfect homeostatic mechanism with thermal insulation from the surrounding ground, and the cooling properties of the swimming pool. The optical impact of the building on the landscape is minimal, with only one facade on the cliff side and no volume extruding from the ground level.”
Other design highlights include a 50-step staircase to the ocean, rotating aged wood door and a loft bedroom.
Equal parts sinister and stylish, expect to see such a lair in the next Bond film, if not in real-life.
