Emerald City Condominiums recently celebrated the official unveiling of the development’s public art display by renowned Canadian novelist and visual artist Douglas Coupland.
The event was held last weekend at the presentation centre of the multi-tower, master-planned community by Elad Canada.
“As one of the most creative visual artists working in the world today, Emerald City is delighted to feature Douglas Coupland’s work,” said Ori Belavin, Manager of Development and Planning at Elad Canada.
“We believe this will be one of the most visually compelling public art installations in the GTA and most certainly is another dynamic addition to this community.”
The installation, titled “Four Seasons,” is comprised of four brightly-coloured cones ranging in height from 48 to 60 feet that form a mountain range running from the corner of Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue to the development’s courtyard and entryway.
The multi-hued pylons are meant to represent the four seasons experienced in Canada with each cone draped in a distinct pattern of colours. The bright and vibrant colours used on the pylons are a playful nod to the Laurentian pencil crayons that were a part of so many Canadians childhood.
“We all know these colours so well from our youth,” said Coupland. “The colours depict a friendly familiar landscape that speak to a universal experience of growing up in Canada.”
A second collection of Coupland’s colourful art forms are also spread across the Emerald City community including one in front of the new Parkway Forest Community Centre. These consist of seven cylinders ranging in height from 24 to 48 feet.
The vibrant art pieces add an eye-catching splash of colour to the community which Elad Canada has transformed since the launch of Emerald City in 2008. When completed, the master-planned community will consist of nine condominium towers, 11 townhome condo units and four apartment building which will include townhome units.
Under construction now, The Colours of Emerald City is the latest addition to the community. The 13-storey tower was designed by renowned firm WZMH Architects and features interiors by II BY IV Design. Like the other towers at Emerald City, The Colours will offer residents a selection of first-rate lifestyle and recreational facilities including a fitness centre, indoor pool with whirlpool and a party room with dining area and lounge.
Suites at the Colours of Emerald City are priced from $248,900 and boast quality features and finishes like balconies or terraces, nine-foot ceilings and quartz or granite kitchen countertops.
