The Metalworks, a new master-planned, high-rise community coming to downtown Guelph, promises to be a game changer.
Situated at 5 Arthur Street South, the multi-phase undertaking by Fusion Homes will reanimate the city, revive a one-of-a-kind structure and add 5 new structures to the site. The project is centred around a historic building that was formerly a grist mill, a distillery and foundry.
The storied structures will be revitalized and, once complete, the 8-acre site will be home to 600-plus residences. The first phase will see 133 new homes and there’s already been significant interest in the project. For the grand opening of the initial phase, the doors to the sales centre opened at 8:15 am, nearly an hour earlier than scheduled in order to accommodate the crowds eagerly waiting to get first pick.
But it’s not just home hunters who actively support the project. Mayor Cam Guthrie just released a video highlighting what makes The Metalworks so unique. He said he’s excited about how the development will bring an influx of people into the downtown and applauded the master-planned community’s vision.
“As soon as it’s completed, we’re going to have this atmosphere that includes river walks, open space and buildings that are going to look fantastic,” he said.
