The work site for On the GO Mimico at Royal York Road and Newcastle Street is full of trucks, diggers and other heavy-duty vehicles.
The Stanton Renaissance project broke ground to much fanfare in summer of 2014 and construction workers have completed the geothermal installation that will help supply green energy to the 27-storey condo.
On the GO Mimico is the first development in the city that will use geothermal heating and cooling combined with a cogeneration system. While standard geothermal systems use the ground to store energy and then recycle it when needed, cogeneration goes one step further, producing electricity and heat from a natural gas powered heat engine. The electricity and thermal energy is then recirculated into the ground as an additional heat source.
And in the event of a power grid failure, the system will supply the condo with 100 per cent of its energy needs!
Now that this step has been completed, the team has begun the excavation process. Here’s a look at the current work:

It’s easy to see just how close the project will be to the Mimico GO station.
The condo will be home to a number of conveniences including an accessible green terrace with barbecues, an eco-friendly carwash, a pet grooming station, a high tech gym with yoga and pilates studios, a theatre room and a lounge/party room.
