Winter sports are an important part of life in Canada and no one knows that better than Skate to Great, a charity organization that collects skates and hockey equipment and distributes it to kids in communities across the country.

West Shore Beach Club by Summerhill Homes recently teamed up with the charity to help give the children and youth of Orillia a chance to experience the wonders of winter sports.

The team behind the new community at Lake Couchiching in Severn spent weeks collecting skates and hockey equipment that was donated to Skate to Great at an event on Saturday, March 7th.

The donation was made at the West Shore Beach Club sales office at 9361 Highway 11 North in Severn, just outside Orillia.

Skate to Great co-founder Evan Kosiner was on hand to accept the donation of two barrels of new and gently used skates and hockey equipment. Summerhill Homes President Sal Ruscica and Mayor of Severn Township Mike Burkett were also on hand for the event.

“We’re really pleased to have partnered with and supported Skate to Great,” said Sal Ruscica, President of Summerhill Homes. “The organization’s mission to give every child in Canada the opportunity to skate, regardless of their economic or physical circumstances is a cause that we truly believe in at Summerhill Homes.”

It’s great to see a developer get involved to help the community it’s building in! Stay tuned for more news on West Shore Beach Club.
