Cast your vote in this year’s Ontario Association of Architects’ People’s Choice Awards from open now until April 15th.

The OAA is giving the public the opportunity to choose a winner among the 10 nominees for the Design Excellence Award. The victor will be announced on Friday, May 8th during the Excellence Ceremony in Hamilton. Check out some of the finalists below and don’t forget to vote online for your favourite design.

Echo House by Paul Raff Studio Incorporated Architect is a family residence located along the Bridle Path in Toronto. The materials are intended to reflect the Asian heritage of the family it was built for. The building’s redesign helped to lower its energy consumption by 50 per cent.

echo house stairs Grotto Sauna by PARTISANS Architects is located on the edge of a private island in Georgian Bay. The free-standing sauna sits atop a large rock formation and boasts curved wood interiors. The architects utilized 3D technology in its construction.

grotto s The Isabel Bader Centre is Queen’s University’s new performing arts complex and Snøhetta’s first Canadian project. The renowned architecture and design planning firm partnered with Ottawa’s N45. Together, they repurposed a former brewery and stable, integrating it into the centre, which also includes a 566-seat performance hall.

performing arts The Ismaili Centre by Moriyama & Teshima Architects and Charles Correa Associates is a museum, community centre and prayer hall for Ismaili Muslims in Toronto. The buildings reflect the character of traditional Islamic architecture, but with a modern outlook. Its most notable feature is the crystalline glass roof set within the prayer hall.

ismaili centre Lake Cottage by UUFIE, located in Bolsover, Ontario, is a reinterpretation of the treehouse. The two storey A-frame residence was built for a large family. The home was constructed using locally sourced materials and includes an outdoor terrace clad with mirrors, blurring the line between inside and out.
