For the second year in a row, Vancouver was ranked the fifth best place to live in the world by Mercer’s Quality of Living Rankings.
The annual study ranks 230 cities globally based on 10 criteria, including the political and social environment, socio-cultural factors, housing and natural environment.

Vancouver’s fifth overall ranking means it was also deemed the number one city to live in North America followed by three other Canadian cities.
Top 5 cities to live in North America
2. Toronto (15th globally)
3. Ottawa (16th globally)
4. Montreal (24th globally)
5. San Francisco (27th globally)
Mercer conducts the study every year to help multinational companies compensate employees when they’re given international assignments. But before Vancouver residents get too comfortable with their position over other Canadian metros, they might want to recall that it was only two months ago when global consulting firm ECA International released a ranking of the world’s “most livable cities” in which Toronto came it an number one and Vancouver and Ottawa were part of a four-way tie for third place.
