HarmonyVillageSheppard_Exterior This past week saw a series of blackouts hit the GTA caused by a series of weather related events. The massive outages left thousands of Torontonians in the dark and in the cold.

At Harmony Village Sheppard by City Core Developments Inc. and Fortress Real Developments, residents won’t have to worry about power failures thanks to Combined Heat Power (CHP) technology. The system — also known as cogeneration — uses an independent onsite power station that simultaneously generates electrical power and heat. Cogeneration captures the excess heat from an electrical generator and uses it to heat the building’s hot water supply and can also be used to heat the building itself.

It’s a cleaner and more efficient way to utilize the by-product of power generation. And because the system is indoors, it’s always secure and protected from weather conditions that could otherwise knock out the lights.

While cogeneration will provide the majority of electrical power to Harmony Village Sheppard, both East and West towers will still be connected to the public electricity grid for ancillary electrical needs and as a backup power supply.
