BuzzBuzzHome News dropped by the site of Pears on the Avenue by Menkes Developments earlier this week to get an update on construction. There has been significant progress on the 20-storey, Page+Steele and IBI Group Architects-designed tower since our last visit in spring 2014.
Today, the structure is fully enclosed with all exterior cladding work completed and the crane was taken down last fall. The exterior hoist is also scheduled to be taken apart next week, marking the last stretch of construction before occupancy in April. From here on in, workers will be using the interior elevators to move equipment and materials on-site.
Inside, many of the suites are in the midst of having hardwood floors, backsplashes, and kitchen cabinetry installed. Work on bathrooms is also progressing with bathtubs, tile surrounds and vanities now in place in some units.
Up on the higher floors, drywall has been installed on the lower penthouse suites. The lucky owners of these units will have plenty of natural light streaming through their floor-to-ceiling windows — not to mention sweeping views of the city.
Down on the ground level, you can begin to see the large retail space taking shape. While Menkes hasn’t dropped any hints on who the tenants will be, the expansive wall of windows will ensure the spaces are bright, open and airy.
Also on the ground floor, the spacious three-storey lobby with its distinctive spiral staircase is starting to come together. When completed, the signature staircase will lead up to the multi-level amenities area where residents will find a large indoor pool with whirlpool and private cabanas, party room with catering kitchen and wet bar, theatre room, and fully-equipped gym with separate cardio and weight areas.
Suites at Pears on the Avenue start in the upper $300,000s and units range in size from 486 to 1,974 square feet. Check out more of our construction photos below.
