Karl Lagerfeld is getting into the condo business. In an exclusive partnership, the world-famous German designer will partner with CD Capital Developments and Freed Developments for the interiors of Art Shoppe Condos, a mixed-use development coming to Yonge and Eglinton.
Lagerfeld’s designs for the the residential lobby spaces will be his first ever work on a condo project in North America, as well as his first project in the Canadian market. ‘Lobbies by Karl Lagerfeld’ will be featured in both the 28-storey tower on the north side and the 12 storey mid-rise building of lofts to the south.
“What I really like is what I’ve never done before,” said Karl Lagerfeld in a statement. “I am always looking for opportunities to expand my range of creative expression, and am excited by the opportunity to design this in Toronto, Canada as part of the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos. I’m excited to be part of the CD Capital and Freed approach to the art of change.”
Details about what the style icon has planned are still scant, but we’ll report on any new info as it becomes available.
Lagerfeld is known for his eye for detail and is an international tastemaker. Not only is he the head designer and creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own label, he’s also a photographer and artist. He’s worked on the interiors of Hôtel de Crillon in Paris, overseen the interiors for the Alma Schlosshotel in Berlin, the décor of Hôtel Métropole’s restaurant and pool area in Monaco as well as the interiors of his own homes.
“My partner Todd Cowan and I approached the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos with the goal to develop an iconic architectural landmark destination in the heart of Toronto,” said Jordan Dermer, Managing Partner of CD Capital Developments.
“With the involvement of Karl Lagerfeld we are doing just that. A true pioneer of design, his mastery of fashion, photography and interior design are unparalleled. Combining property with possibility; it is this talent that will give the building a timeless identity and bring the ‘Lobbies by Karl Lagerfeld’ to life.”
Located at 2131 Yonge Street, the condo will be home to a variety of one and two-bedroom suites. The project is currently in preconstruction.
