Brightly colored kilim rugs are making a comeback, despite the fact that they never really went away. The woven tapestries have been around since fourth century, with motifs characterized by the region they come from. Their eclectic, graphic patterns add instant character to a room. Kilims look best when complemented by modern, minimalist decor — this will keep the space from seeming too busy.

The Tahla kilim from Furbish Studio is a vintage Turkish rug measuring 5.4’ by 8.6’ (1.6 by 2.6 meters). Its teal, pink and orange hues blend into a striking starburst design. The kilim is 100 percent wool and naturally dyed. It’s available online for $900 US or about  $1,113 CAD.

While vintage kilims can fetch high prices, cheaper alternatives can be found on sites like West Elm, Urban Outfitters and RugsUSA.
