With five days plus a month to go in 2014, the Calgary housing market has already broken the record for the number of luxury home sales in a year.

As reported by Mike Fotiou, associate broker for First Place Realty, 799 homes have sold for at least $1 million in 2014 compared to 726 in all of 2013, a 10 per cent year-over-year increase with 36 days remaining on the calendar.

In fact, 51 one million dollar homes have already changed hands in November. That’s 11 consecutive months in which each respective month has seen its sales record broken.

And the sales growth isn’t limited to Calgary’s luxury market either. According to preliminary data from the Calgary Real Estate Board, a total of 1,463 homes have already changed hands across the Multiple Listing Service this month, up 8.45 per cent from November 2013 with five days left to go.

Stay tuned next week when we will have the final resale housing data — both sales and price growth — for the month November.
