A new 55-storey luxury residential tower is about to illuminate the Toronto skyline. The Residences of 488 University Avenue is under construction in the city’s downtown core, and will soon offer residents a life of ultimate convenience and grandeur.
The construction site is currently home to an existing office building, which will become part of the development. It will house high-end retail stores and a five-star restaurant, the name of which will soon be unveiled.
“There will be very minimal impact to the existing office building,” said Jason Shiff, executive sales manager of the development. “We’re doing a nice glass-steel frame around it with an exoskeleton, and we’re building on top of it.”
While the commercial space will be incorporated into the residential structure, they will each have separate entrances. The porte-cochere entrance for residences will be located on Simcoe Street, which will feature a marble archway with valet parking and a 24/7 doorman. Shiff compares the vibe to that of a chic New York City hotel.
To maintain that cosmopolitan feel, Toronto-based design firm II BY IV was tasked with designing the interiors. Each suite will be outfitted with herringbone patterned flooring, marble/granite/caesarstone countertops, an integrated fridge and dishwasher with matching cabinetry and innovative smarthome technology.
The project’s piece-de-resistance, however, is the SkyClub — over 30,000 square feet of space that will encompass both the 18th and 19th floors. Dressed in marble and limestone, the space will contain a world-class fitness centre (with touch-screen equipment), a pilates room, squash court, sky spa and more. It will also face south to provide residents with stunning views of the water.
Residents can access the 19th floor, also known as the SkyBar, by heading up a large staircase punctuated by a sparkling chandelier. The floor will boast an indoor saltwater pool with a retractable facade that leads to the outdoor pool, and a jacuzzi with a patio and fire pit area.
“We wanted to provide something that the city has never offered before,” Shiff said. “It was really important for us to include every type of amenity into this building.”
It’s not just the amenities that set 488 University apart from the rest. The developer is also incorporating the St.Patrick subway station into the building. Translation: residents won’t need to venture outside to access it. That said, it’s clear the developer is big on convenience. Located on University Avenue, the development will neighbour the University of Toronto, Bloor Street, The Opera House, AGO and more.
Interested? Take note: the official launch took place on September 3rd, but the developer is inviting interested buyers to the presentation centre at 383 University Avenue to learn more.
