Toronto’s Forest Hill neighbourhood has long been defined by its traditional architecture, sloping hills and canopies of foliage, making it one of the most picturesque pockets in the city. Now, Madison Homes and Fieldgate Homes have teamed together to create Zigg Condos, an 11-storey condo building that will not only add to the area’s charm, but also modernize it.
The contemporary residence at 223 St. Clair Avenue West at Poplar Plains Road will house 166 suites in total, including three, two-storey townhouses with three-bedroom plus den layouts. The smartly-designed suites will also offer plenty of space, whether it’s a one-bedroom design or two-bedroom plus den.
But it’s the project’s unique terraced design with overlapping shapes and forms that is sure to turn heads. The architecture will blend together both traditional and modern elements that speak to the surrounding neighbourhood (think: wood tones combined with bright white hues and black accents). Even the tower’s name was inspired by this delicate design balance. It comes from the word “Ziggurat”, which means an architectural structure that takes on the form of a stepped, terraced pyramid.
Zigg Condos‘ interiors will reflect its contemporary facade with simple clean lines, neutral tones and a refined urban elegance. Take the double-height lobby for instance. It will feature wood slats, cove lighting and metal accents enlivened with modern furniture and abstract artwork. The same look will extend to the individual suites, which will be dressed in natural stone countertops, sleek kitchen cabinetry with integrated appliances and large floor-to-ceiling windows. Most suites will contain balconies or terraces with privacy screens.
The developers also considered every detail when designing the condo’s amenities, from the landscaped rooftop terrace with an outdoor linear fireplace and barbecue area overlooking the city’s downtown skyline to the pet washing station with a separate entrance near the lobby (read: no pawprints decorating the hallways). The ground floor will also contain a fitness centre, club-style party room and a private dining space with a suspended fireplace and kitchen area.
The conveniences don’t stop there. Residents will be nearby the Forest Hill Village at Spadina Road and Lonsdale Avenue, which is peppered with both trendy cafes and traditional cuisine. The modern building will also neighbour the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church and will be in walking distance to Sir Winston Churchill Park. Did we mention that subway stations are a short walk away in either direction?
