Though Vancouver and Toronto tend to steal all the headlines, Hamilton is a housing hot spot worth plenty more attention. Whether you’re looking for a place to settle down or an investment suite, The Connolly, a new mixed-use project by Stanton Renaissance, is sure to stand out.

After all, the condo is a rare refurbishment project that will preserve one of the oldest churches in Hamilton. Once complete, the development will rise 30-storeys above 98 James Street South in a dynamic corner of the city.

The real estate market in Hamilton is similarly unique. While it’s close to bigger cities such as Toronto, home ownership is significantly more affordable.

In June, the average price for a Toronto resale condo rose to $390,569. That same month, the average sale price for a resale condo suite in Hamilton was $224,384, more than $160,000 less!

More and more buyers are choosing the condo lifestyle as well. In June, sales of Hamilton condos rose an impressive 31.1 per cent, year-over-year, despite the fact that there were fewer listings available than in 2013.

The city has been celebrated by investors as well. Toronto-Dominion Bank economist Diana Petramala pointed out that alongside Calgary, Hamilton had the tightest housing market among major Canadian cities based on the sales-to-listings ratio.

In June, Hamilton was also among the top cities singled out by the Real Estate Investment Network as the best places to invest in Ontario. The report looked into a number of key factors including population increases, job growth and transportation improvements.

Speaking of transportation, not only is The Connolly situated in a highly walkable neighbourhood, but it’s also in an enviable spot for transit access. Literally seconds from the Hamilton GO Centre, residents will be able to easily take commuter trains across southern Ontario or hop on the local bus line.

There’s more. Efforts are currently underway to build an entirely new transit hub. The James Street North GO Station will be just a 15 minute walk from The Connolly and will be on GO Transit’s Lakeshore West line, bringing more commuter trains in and out of the city each day. It will also feature connections to the HSR and come equipped with a wealth of bike parking as well.
