After 155 Redpath Condos hit the 70 per cent sold mark in April, Freed Developments and CD Capital Developments have continued to push the envelope with a new collection of luxury penthouse suites coming this fall.
That’s not the only aspect of the project that’s starting to peak interest. With construction soon to begin, the 36-storey condo project has been garnering tons of buzz thanks to its location in the heart of the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood, which is set for a major expansion.
There’s no question that 155 Redpath is part of the neighbourhood’s evolvement. Once complete, the residential project will house a wealth of amenities on both the ground level and ninth floor (think infinity edge pool with private cabanas and an outdoor fitness space and yoga deck).
We caught up with Matt Young, CD Capitals’ Vice President of Development to learn more about the luxury penthouse suites and what else future residents can look forward to as the construction date draws near:
BuzzBuzzHome: There’s no question that the Yonge and Eglinton area is an established and sought-after neighbourhood in Toronto. But you also mention that it’s evolving — can you elaborate on this and explain how 155 Redpath ties into its expansion?
Matt Young: The evolution happening right now is akin to what happened in King West over the last 10 years with one huge difference. The new Crosstown LRT is turning Yonge and Eglinton into one of the most transit accessible nodes in all of Canada, and because of that, there is a huge influx of demand in the neighbourhood. RioCan is investing over $100 million to redevelop the Yonge Eglinton Centre, new restaurants are opening up constantly and residential developers are feeding that appetite with increased residential opportunities.
155 Redpath in particular is located right on the new LRT line and is one street away from the subway, so it’s exactly what purchasers have been asking for. It’s a well designed, transit oriented development in one of the most exciting neighbourhoods in all of Toronto.
BBH: At the end of April, it was announced that the building hit the 70 per cent sold mark. How has the response been since, and what about the project has appealed to buyers most?
MY: The response to the project has been overwhelming. We really took a design first approach, with clean finishes, an art gallery inspired lobby and beautiful lifestyle amenities. Even the suites themselves are the most efficient I’ve ever been involved in designing. They have wide spans of glass, amazing natural light and bedrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows in all of our units. Most projects get stuck with a few stacks of challenging units, but every single suite at 155 Redpath is very liveable and since it’s so efficient, very affordable as well.
BBH: You mentioned a new release of penthouse suites coming this fall. Why did Freed and CD Capital decide to incorporate these units into 155 Redpath?
MY: What we discovered very early on in the project is that Yonge and Eglinton is a very desirable area for families and couples to live. It’s close to some of the best public and private schools in Toronto, and feels quite residential, despite being one of the densest commercial hubs in the city. It’s also surrounded by some of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in Canada, so we’ve seen a number of downsizing buyers who want to sell their large homes and live in a more manageable condo or first time buyers who want to remain close to the neighbourhood they grew up in.
BBH: What more can you tell us about the penthouse suites? How will they compare to the building’s standard-sized units?
MY: I can’t reveal all the details yet, but the penthouses will differ from our standard suites in a few ways. For one, they will be quite a bit larger, ranging from 1,100 to over 1,400 square feet. They will have much larger kitchens and open-concept living rooms with superior finishes. We will be releasing more information soon.
BBH: Are there any other new updates on the project that you can share with us?
MY: We’ve actually designed and have yet to release an entirely new unit stack in our tower, which is the most efficient and well laid out two bedroom I’ve worked on. We’ll be releasing a handful of 681-square-foot two bedroom and two bath corner units that are extremely liveable.
