The first event of the series was held back in February and focused on the design of the development itself, with Don Schmitt of Diamond + Schmitt Architects and Melandro Quilatan of Tomas Pearce Interior Design speaking to a packed house of HighPark homebuyers.
This time around the focused shifted to the great outdoors, specifically to the history of High Park and the myriad activities residents will be able to take advantage of once they move in.
The Daniels Corporation arranged to have a fantastic group of experts speak to the crowd. Alex Ling, former chair of the Bloor West Village BIA, started off the night with an engaging story of how the area surrounding the park evolved into the tight-knit, sought after community it is today. Founded in 1970, the Bloor West Village BIA was the first of its kind in the world and eventually the concept of a Business Improvement Area was replicated across the city and soon after in cities in the US, Germany and Japan.
Next up was Phillip Cheong of Colborne Lodge, a historical museum located at the south end of High Park. Cheong showed off his encyclopedic knowledge of the park’s history with stories of John and Jemima Howard, the couple who founded High Park and built Colborne Lodge back in 1837.
Robin Sorys took the podium after Cheong to speak about the wide range of activities available at High Park. From the High Park Zoo to the seemingly endless array of sports available, there’s something for kids and adults of all ages.
High Park Nature Centre executive director Natalie Harder capped off the speaking segment of the night with detailed information on the ecology of the park. Following her talk, Harder led a walk through the park so future residents would be familiar with the layout of the park and the nature within it.
The Daniels Corporation is known for its commitment to building solid communities and this event is just one more example of how they established that reputation.
Prices for available suites at HighPark start at $300,000s and units range in size from 320 to 1,645 square feet.
