TORONTO 2015 PAN/PARAPAN AMERICAN GAMES - New Sports Facility

It’s not every day you can tell people you live at The Academy Condos. While not a school per se, the new condo community will offer a housing alternative to those wanting to reside near the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC).

Lemine Investment Group and Devron Developments have teamed together to help meet the growing demand for more housing options near the university. As more students consider the campus, the enrollment number is nearing 12,000 and is expected to increase by 5,000 in the next two decades. The campus currently has one on-site residence that sleeps 765, but it’s only available to first-year students.

The evolving area is also attracting widespread media attention after it was announced that a $248 million Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (pictured above) at Morningside and Military Trail will open to students and the public this fall. As its name suggests, the large space will be used for the Toronto Pan Am/Parapan American Games next summer.

In terms of the university itself, UTSC is the only U of T campus that offers an extensive co-op program and well-respected business program. There’s also a $65 million environmental science and chemistry building under construction that will be complete in 2015.

Located at Ellesmere Road and Morningside Avenue, The Academy will help to further revitalize the neighbourhood and offer students an appealing alternative to commuting to campus every day.  The residential building will rise 26 storeys and house 339 suites.

Residents will also be nearby multiple grocery stores, Morningside National Park and Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital.
