According to Amanda Wilson Watkins, the Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Minto, sales at Kingmeadow have far-exceeded the company’s expectations with almost 400 properties in the community snapped up. The project has even become the best-selling community in Durham Region for the year.

“As we have our first group of buyers move in and become residents, we’re really seeing traffic and inquiries pick up,” she said. This month will see the first closings taking place and the first 25 residents put down roots, though construction has only been underway for the last six months or so.

Situated at Simcoe Street North and Britannia Avenue in North Oshawa, the new community is attracting buyers from far afield. Though the bulk of the community’s future residents come from York and Durham region, Watkins said they’re seeing interest from house hunters across the entire GTA.

“It’s not unusual to see a buyer from downtown Toronto that’s looking for more room to spread out because they’re starting a family,” she said. Comprised of freehold townhomes and singles, Kingmeadow has piqued the interest of first-time buyers, empty-nesters and even families with college-age kids since the University of Ontario Institute of Technology is right around the corner.

The project has stirred up interest in large part due to its pricing. “North Oshawa is very affordable by GTA standards, and in some cases $200,000 to $300,000 less than comparable homes and single-family spaces in particular,” said Watkins.

The corner of Oshawa also appeals to buyers who like quick access to the countryside, but still want the conveniences of city life. The area is also being reinvigorated by a number of marquee projects. The Highway 407 extension will be just north of the site and a large regional mall will be cropping up very soon.

Other area perks include the Kedron Dells Golf Club, the Winchester Golf Club, the Cedar Valley Conservation Area and a wealth of other green spaces.

The craftsman-style homes span 1,068 to 3,502 square feet and come in a variety of styles. Prices start from $229,990.
