We’ve uncovered more information on Charles Blaichman’s Williamsburg residential project at 280 Metropolitan.

Plans were filed for the six-story, 27-unit development between Driggs Avenue and Roebling Street in November 2013, Brownstoner reported.

The elevator condo building will have retail space on the ground floor, underground parking and a virtual doorman intercom system, with private rooftop terraces in select units, according to the CB Developers site. Other amenities will include a gym, common rooftop terrace and rear yard.

The 34′ by 100′ lot was purchased for $3.13 million in April 2013 by CB Driggs LLC, affiliated with Waterbridge Capital, according to public records. The same LLC also acquired the neighboring 55′ by 136′ lot at 284-290 Metropolitan Avenue for $4.84 million. Demolition permits were filed in November for the existing two-story structures on both sites.

The architect of record for the new development is Garrison Architects, and the firm’s site gives us an in-depth view of the design: the industrial-style facade will feature zinc corrugated panels, private balconies along the south wall and a terracotta-clad stair tower. The interiors will have floor-to-ceiling glass, walnut flooring and cabinetry, white marble countertops and lots of natural light. Aluminum brise soleil, or sun shades, over the balconies will prevent overheating during the summer.

“Each balcony and terrace also incorporates planters and mesh to promote the growth of vertical gardens,” the site says. “The hope is for the south facade to become a lush, living, green extension of the rear yard, with each inhabitant participating.”
