Architecture firm goCstudio is looking to build a floating sauna to moor in Seattle’s majestic Lake Washington.
The 8 x 8 foot sauna would sit atop an 8 x 16 foot timber platform which itself would stand on twenty-eight 55 gallon flotation barrels secured by an aluminum frame. And in typical Pacific Northwest fashion, the floating oasis would be accessible by kayak. Meanwhile, a diving board on the sauna’s roof deck would allow users to test out the surrounding waters.
But before construction can begin, money must be raised for materials. According to Gizmag, goCstudio is getting set to launch a Kickstarter campaign with a $15,000 fundraising goal. If successful, goCstudio co-founder and architect Aimée O’Carroll, along with her business partner Jon Gentry, will build the sauna themselves with the help of friends and volunteers.
It’s a grand idea and one that reminds us of Finland’s Saunalautta, which we covered in our roundup of the best floating homes (second item down).
