Demolition is well under way at an old church building at 424 West 55th Street, which will sprout new apartments.
Located between Ninth and Tenth avenues, the seven-story, 17-unit project is being developed by The Arker Companies. Ariel Aufgang is designing the 66-foot-tall building, which will have bicycle storage and an outdoor recreation area, according to the plan exam application filed in October 2013.
The developer bought the vacant three-story structure for $8.16 million last year and filed demolition permits in August. Here’s a photo of the property in November 2013:
