American luxury retail giant Nordstrom announced today that it will open a location at Toronto’s Eaton Centre, replacing Sears as an anchor tenant.
The Seattle-based company said construction would begin in March 2014 with the store slated to open in fall 2016.
Since Sears’ announcement that it planned on closing its Eaton Centre location last fall, there has been speculation that Nordstrom would move in on the coveted retail territory.
Nordstrom currently operates 261 stores in 35 states. The retailer had previously outlined plans to open stores in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. The first to open will be a location at Calgary’s Chinook Centre in fall 2014. Two previously announced Toronto locations will open in fall 2016 at Yorkdale Mall and Sherway Gardens (rendering above).
The new Eaton Centre location will be approximately 213,000 square feet over three levels and will be Nordstrom’s sixth Canadian store.
