If each country’s size were adjusted to reflect its share of the world’s population then Canada would be just a thin strip of land and the United States would look like, well, the United States.

While the data the map below pulls from is a little out of date, the scale is still relatively accurate: One square on the grid = one million people.

China, India and Indonesia really balloon, while countries like Iceland and Belize have so few people they don’t even register on the atlas. (Click here for a larger version)
