UPDATE 3:48pm: CFRE is reporting that the fire has now been contained and firefighters are allowing the building to burn itself out.

Original story: A major fire at a construction site at Princess and Queen Street in Kingston trapped a crane operator and caused surrounding buildings to be evacuated.

Ottawa-based radio station CFRE has reported that the crane operator was rescued. There is a photo circulating on Twitter of a helicopter rescuing the man (see below).

Further details on the cause of the fire are scant, but the construction site is reportedly a student housing complex in downtown Kingston and an explosion was heard before the fire began.
