A pair o’ East Village buildings — one with Beat poet cred — have sold for $17.5 million.
170-172 East 2nd Street and 174 East 2nd Street are contiguous mixed-use walk-ups, located between Avenue A and Avenue B. The properties contain a total of four ground-floor retail spaces and 43 apartments. 170-172 East 2nd is six stories tall, with 34 residential units; 174 East 2nd is five stories tall, with 9 apartments.
The sale was handled by Itzhaki Properties’ Edan Cohen and Yona Edelkopf.
Allen Ginsberg lived in apartment 16 at 170 East 2nd from 1958 to 1961, according to The New York Times. In that rental, he wrote the widely praised “Kaddish,” an elegy for his mother .
