Sitting on the northern edge of Toronto, Vaughan was once considered a rural hub that never garnered much attention from downtowners — but that’s no longer the case. Now one of the fastest growing suburban cities in the GTA, Vaughan still tends to its vast amounts of green space to keep the city scenic.

The city is continuing to modernize, thanks in part to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, an emerging urban centre that will stretch for 442 acres. It’s considered to be Vaughan’s new downtown core, and by the end of 2031, it will accommodate 25,000 residents and house 12,000 new residential units. The urban hub will also boast office buildings, residential complexes and scores of retail and dining spots.

For ultra-easy commutes, a new 8.6-kilometre subway line extension is scheduled to be completed in 2016, which will sit at the heart of the revitalized downtown.
