The legendary Casa Casuarina made waves when it sold to the Nakash family for $41.5 million at auction last week. Now, the new owners are considering turning the former Versace Mansion into high-end retail, The Real Deal reported.
The Nakash family, which owns Jordache Enterprises, could use the property at 1116 Ocean Drive as a hotel before enlisting a retailer such as Apple or Victoria’s Secret. “I think this could be an incredible retail flag location,” Jon Bennett, director of real estate at Nakash Holdings in New York, told The Real Deal.
The 23,000-square-foot, 10-bedroom mansion, originally listed for $125 million, is located next to the Nakash family’s Hotel Victor. Fashion designer Gianni Versace bought the 1930 building in 1992 and spent $33 million on renovations. Versace was shot and killed in front of the mansion in 1997.
