urbanism CreativeMornings lectures were held in 20 cities across the globe today as a diverse group of speakers took to stages from Portland to Moscow to talk about a variety of topics related to urbanism.

The long list of speakers participating included Jennifer Keesmaat, Toronto’s Chief City Planner, Bruce Stephenson, a civic urbanism professor at Florida’s Rollins College and Marcus Westbury, founder of Renew Australia, a group that works to make empty buildings available for creative projects.

Founded in 2009 by New York-based designer Tina Roth Eisenberg, CreativeMornings has morphed into a global phenomenon. Every month a theme is chosen and the CreativeMornings teams (called chapters) in each city organize whip smart and engaging lecturers to speak about topics related to the theme.

This month’s theme was urbanism and speakers zeroed in on topics like urban renewal, city-building, infrastructure, complete communities and the importance of buying local.
