As Downtown Erin Mills Condos, a new Pemberton Group neighbourhood in the heart of Mississauga takes shape, so too will the area’s most well-known amenity be transformed. The Erin Mills Town Centre, an 850,000 square foot shopping centre, is undergoing its first major renovation since opening in 1989.
Mississauga is quickly becoming more urban in scope and planned communities such as Downtown Erin Mills are helping create that change. These two initiatives each offer the opportunity for people to gather. The condominium will have a private onsite Recreation Centre for residents and the shopping centre revitalization will include a new centre court with an infinity pool, surrounded by communal seating for public events.
Contemporary design elements will characterize the $100 million mall makeover. The existing clock tower will be succeeded by an iconic glass sphere (283 feet in circumference) that will pierce the roof dropping into the central court. The skylights will also be reworked with modern features that will infuse the mall with even more natural light.
Erin Mills Shopping Centre is already a great neighbourhood amenity, located just across the street from Pemberton‘s newest condo community. When the $100 million renovation is complete, residents will be able to walk to a space that fits their needs and reflects their taste for contemporary urban living.
“We conducted extensive research and listened closely to our present and potential customers’ feedback,” explained Erin Mills Town Centre’s Vice President, Nance MacDonald.
“It was clear they were not looking for ‘bigger’ but a ‘better’ more enhanced shopping experience, showcasing retailers that deliver trendy, aspirational brands. We were inspired by their comments and plan to deliver beyond their expectations!”
As the shopping centre gears up for its 25th anniversary, it’s clear that the transformation will be a large part of the celebration. Construction on Phase 1 will start this summer with the brand new food court, which will feature an outdoor patio with panoramic views of the ever-changing Mississauga skyline. Food will play a large role in the centre’s transformation: the main entrance to the food court will feature a dramatic 54 foot glass entrance. On the lower level, the main entrance will be flanked by glass-enclosed restaurants.
The entire renovation and re-imagining of the centre is scheduled for completion in 2015, meaning Downtown Erin Mills residents will be able to enjoy the transformed shopping centre by the time they move in.
Suites start in the low $300,000s and range in size from 580 to 930 square feet.
