The developer is headquartered in the city — in the Williams Tower, in fact — and while its residential and commercial projects are spread across urban centers around the world, Hines has always had a soft spot for Houston.
According to a recent Houston CultureMap article by Ralph Bivins, the developer is expanding the scope of its major new downtown office tower on Main Street at Texas Avenue. Initially set to rise 41 stories over downtown Houston, the developer has opted to increase the size of the building and add high-grade amenities.
The tower will greatly exceed the original planned total square footage of 815,000, though Hines has not announced how much larger the tower will be.
John Mooz, senior managing director in Hines’ Southwest Regional office, told CultureMap that the height and size of the building won’t be finalized until the fourth quarter of 2013 and ground will be broken on the project in the first quarter of 2014.
Hines’ BG Group Place tower, completed in 2011, is located two blocks away at 811 Main Street. Its success reinforced Hines’ opinion that Main Street was ideal for further commercial high-rise development.
Clearly the developer was on the money as the Houston office boom has continued, with a large number of energy firms looking for room to expand.
