A Colorado company is planning to build and test a tube transportation system that could exceed speeds of 4,000 miles per hour.
ET3 says passengers of the six-person capsule would feel the same amount of G-forces as they would in a car ride while traveling from New York to Los Angeles in less than an hour.
“In theory, this elevated tube system could be built for a tenth of the cost of high-speed rail and a quarter the cost of a freeway,” Yahoo News reports.
If the concept sounds familiar, you may recall that entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk proposed a similar idea last year. ET3 has also been working on their “Evacuated Tube Transport” plan for some time. In fact, they released a conceptual video more back in April 2012 (below). According to Business Insider, ET3 will build a three-mile long version for testing by the end of the year.
