Located on Peninsula Lake, the resort community near Huntsville is well over 100 years old and has become a go-to destination for families and couples looking to explore the natural beauty of Muskoka.
The BuzzBuzzHome team was invited by Skyline, the owner of the Deerhurst Resort since 2011, to experience the its sought-after hospitality and scope out its new freehold housing communities, Deerhurst Sanctuary and Deerhurst Golf Cottages.
It was an ideal weekend for a trip to Muskoka, with blue skies and the mercury climbing to the high 20’s. Thankfully following the tour of the Sanctuary lots and the Golf Cottages that are currently under construction, we were able to cool off in the lake and enjoy a snack and refreshing beverage at the beach bar.
When we arrived at the resort just after 10am, following the famously simple two hour and two turn drive from Toronto, we were greeted by a friendly concierge who arranged our accommodation, Splash Passes (more on that later) and our dinner and brunch vouchers.
Home to two championship golf courses, the fabulous Eclipse restaurant, tennis courts, the Shizen Spa, plenty of conference space, it’s not hard to imagine why the resort was pleasantly bustling on a Saturday in the middle of July.
After the easy check-in, we were whisked away by the Skyline sales team for a tour of the Sanctuary and Golf Cottages sites. What was immediately striking about the Sanctuary lots was the size — the largest lots are six acres — and the incredibly serene surroundings. Muskoka can get quite busy in some areas, especially when you’re located on the site of a legendary resort. The area where Skyline is planning Sanctuary is quiet and private, neatly tucked away within the sprawling grounds of Deerhurst and adjacent to the Woodland Heights Nature Sanctuary.

The Deerhurst Sanctuary project encompasses 32 Legacy Estates ranging in size from 1.5 to 6 acres. Estates are priced from the $200,000’s.
A number of the estates have been sold already but construction has yet to begin on the sold lots. Skyline emphasizes that once the future resident’s home is built on the estate, it’s unlikely that the owner will want to make any other changes to the lot. And why would you? The natural beauty and tranquility is a major selling point.
We couldn’t get enough of these untouched lots. It will be interesting to see what the future owners build on them. Skyline offer a collection of designs and the services of its preferred builder. Owners will also be able to create their own designs and use their own builder, if they wish.
Owners at Deerhurst Sanctuary will be able to take advantage of everything that the Deerhurst Resort has to offer, from golfing at its two championship golf courses in the summer to snowshoeing in the winter.
