The numbers, released earlier today by the Houston Association of Realtors, broke the previous monthly sales record of 7,688 single-family home sales set in June 2006.
Shad Bogany, chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors, described the market as “white hot” in an article by real estate journalist Ralph Bivens, writing for Culture Map – Houston.
The median price of a single-family home also hit a new high, climbing by 11.9 per cent to $188,000.
While Houston Association of Realtors chairman Danny Frank described the market as “vibrant,” he also noted that pricing needs to be watched carefully.
“A disproportionate appreciation in home prices could suggest a bubble, and Houston is very fortunate to have avoided one so far,” he said.
Despite the price growth concerns, Frank said the association continues to see multiple offers on homes and cash offers.
