A heatwave is baking parts of the eastern US and south-east Ontario — melting ice cream, driving up air conditioning bills and generally wreaking havoc. If you happen to have a pool in your backyard or building, you’re probably getting more “Hey, what’s up?” text messages than usual.
While a heatwave makes just about any body of water 100 times more appealing, we decided to compile eight of the most impressive pools on the planet. From the Swiss Alps to an island covered in rain forest, these pools will have you cooled down in no time.

Benitachell, Costa Blanca, Spain
The pool may not be anything special, but that view of the old Spanish village of Benitachell could not be better.

Swimming Pool by Leandro Erlich
More mind-boggling than refreshing, this stunning aquatic installation by Argentine artist Leandro Erlich had us confounded. A continuous piece of acrylic spans the pool, suspending water above it and creating one heck of an illusion.

There’s something special about this pool that we just can’t grasp. Maybe it’s the rain slick wood surrounding it or the gorgeous exposure of the photo — whatever the case may be, this is a pool we want to get in.
