OAA Awards Last week, some of the brightest stars in the architecture world gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to scope out some of the most stunning new buildings in Ontario and the world.

The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) gala honoured local firms that are making a huge impact. Part of the ceremony showcased 15 innovating buildings in Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles, Tel-Aviv, Waterloo, Sequin Township, and Vancouver in this year’s ‘Design Excellence’ category.

After checking out some of the innovative spaces that earned the ‘Design Excellence’ titles, it’s easy to see just how deserved the accolades are.

Other honours revealed during the evening included the ‘Best of Show,’ ‘People’s Choice’ and ‘Michael V. and Wanda Plachta Award.’

“Architects are increasingly creating spaces that invite the general public to interact and engage. The 2013 award winners exemplify architecture that goes beyond the expected in both design and function,” said Bill Birdsell, president of the OAA.

“This year’s winning projects set the stage for what communities around the world are aspiring to achieve – open, bright, relevant and inclusive spaces, where people want to be.”
