A couple of months back we told you about toothpick San Francisco. Well, we found something that tops it: Stan Munro’s still-growing “Toothpick City” and “Toothpick World,” which feature iconic structures from around the world, including…
The International Space Station.
One World Trade Center, Burj Khalifa, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.
New York City’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
As well as the incredible al-Haram mosque in Mecca.
So, how does Stan Munro find the time to build so many intricate toothpick structures? According to Inhabitat, what started as a childhood hobby became a full-time job 10 years ago when Stan’s wife Suzi was stricken with Polycystic Kidney-Liver Disease.
“Stan had held many types of positions before, but he knew that he needed to be home for his wife, so he began working on and promoting his toothpick art,” explains Inhabitat. “In 2006, he sold his very first Toothpick City to a Spanish museum and was able to support himself and his wife, who finally started getting better after receiving a double-transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida in 2011.”
Suzi says that Stan signs all of his buildings: ‘I Luv Suzi,” which is as adorable as his work is impressive.
