Barrie skyline It’s a trend that’s been repeated in major urban centres across Ontario and Barrie has followed suite: the district saw year-over-year sales decline, but prices hold steady.

According to new stats from the Barrie & District Association of Realtors published by the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), the region saw a 21 per cent dip in sales over February 2013 when compared to the year before.

And the average price of a home in February 2013 was $299,661, only one per cent higher compared to the same period in 2012.

However, Wendy Elzner, president of the realtors association warned of reading too much into the year-over-year numbers as February 2012 was particularly strong.

“Looking past that one aberrant data point, everything else is still looking pretty good. Save for last year, it was the best month of February for sales since 2008.

“At the same time, the market remains very well balanced, with the average home price continuing to see modest growth,” she said.

The Barrie & District stats encompass the City of Barrie as well as Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Innisfil, Essa, Bradford-West Gwillimbury and Clearview.
